JoyCheck is a free browser tool that tests game controllers: buttons, sticks, triggers, stick drift and vibration. It is built by Taimoor Bamazai at Elites Algorithm. The tester reads your controller inside your browser and never sends that input to a server.

What is JoyCheck?

JoyCheck reads any modern USB or Bluetooth controller through the W3C Gamepad API and shows you every button press, analog stick position, trigger pressure, and vibration motor state in real time. PS5 DualSense, PS4 DualShock 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch Pro, Joy-Con, if your browser can see it, JoyCheck reads it.

It exists so that checking a controller does not need desktop software, a driver or an account. Connect a controller, press a button, and the page shows what the controller reports. Run the tester, no signup, no download.

How did we build JoyCheck?

How the tester works, in plain terms:

  • W3C Gamepad API. It runs in the browser, with no plugin and no driver download. The API is available in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari; Safari has supported it since version 10.1.
  • Plain JavaScript, no framework. The tester does not use React, Vue or Angular.
  • No controller data sent. The tester makes no network requests for your controller input. You can check this in your browser’s DevTools, on the Network tab.

Why is JoyCheck free?

  • Free, no signup, no ads inside the tester. The core tester is permanently free, and we don’t gate basic diagnostics behind email capture. The pages around it can show Google AdSense ads, which load only after you accept the cookie banner. They sit in the page around the tester, never inside it, and the embeddable tester at /embed/ carries no ads and no ad scripts at all. Ads or not, the tester never sends your controller input anywhere.
  • A possible Pro tier ($5/month, opt-in). Planned for late 2026: saved controller profiles, advanced DualSense haptic metrics, a multi-controller comparison view and latency benchmarking. Pro only adds features; nothing that is free today will move behind it.
